still, we fly north

5 min

This piece is inspired by The Purple Martin (Progne subis), a bird that migrates hundreds of kilometers south in the winter and returns to North America every spring. Their dependence on human-made houses for nesting shows how vulnerable these birds are. However, it also shows the unconditional love the people can profess to an immigrant. With the piece, I seek to evoke Purple Martin’s swirls, flaps and glides during its flight, and their celebratory arrival to the houses humans have built in North America.
