Atadas, las manos
12 mins
During an unexpected sojourn in the United States from July to October 2020, I found myself stranded due to the closure of Colombia's borders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This period of uncertainty and displacement became the catalyst for this composition, a reflection on the tenuous grasp we have over our lives. While moving between friends' apartments and a theater I used to work at, I grappled with the illusion of control, channeling these experiences into music. The piece delves into the struggle between agency and fate, employing shifting textures and deconstructed passages of early music inspired by Heinrich Biber's Mystery Sonatas to mirror the impermanence and unpredictability of that time.
